Tireside Chat Vol. 6: What is Your Highest Level of Training in a Stress Scenario?

America the Battlefield
by Timothy A. Pope
April 10, 2025

In today’s Tireside Chat, I ask a targeted question: “What is the highest level of training you have achieved in a stress scenario?”

Former Marine Reconnaissance rifleman, door gunner, tier one operator, and co-founder of Magpul Dynamics, Travis Haley, advises his students that during a stress scenario or disruptive environment, you will ALWAYS default to the highest level of training you have achieved.

Are you and your Mutual Assistance Group (MAG) training in static or dynamic environments? Are you training outside of your comfort zone, pushing yourselves, and forcing yourselves into stress scenarios and disruptive environments? Are you going through those motions, building new neural pathways and muscle memory?

If not, please consider taking your training to the next level. Be hard on yourself, because the world will treat you even harder. You will be better equipped in mind and body to handle scenarios that you may not have considered, or that are decidedly challenging, to say the very least.

The Tariff Two-Step: A Dialogue on Roads, Revenue, and Reckless Spending in Oregon

America the Battlefield

by Timothy A. Pope
April 8, 2025

In today's episode of America the Battlefield, Tim sits down with Ben Roche over coffee, the former Chair of the Linn County Republican Party, stepping through the back-and-forth dance of state policy missteps and budget band-aids. One starts with a jab: "You see ODOT wants more taxes again? Gas, mileage, tolls—you name it.” The other counters, “And yet, they can’t keep the roads paved. Where's all that money going?”

They “two-step” through topics: the Oregon Transportation Package in 2017 which promised smoother roads but now shows signs of crumbling promises. They challenge vehicle fees and how gas taxes hurt the working-class, and discuss the tolling schemes that feel more like revenue traps than traffic solutions.

As Tim and Ben waltz into the deeper details, they dig into the Oregon Department of Transportation’s financial mismanagement—like the BILLIONS in debt and nearly $30 billion in upcoming project costs.

“It’s like they’ve choreographed a budget ballet where the taxpayers always foot the bill for the encore.”

By the end of their chat, the theme is clear: Oregon’s transportation policy has become a careful dance of shifting costs and dodging accountability—a real Tariff Two-Step where they try to pass the buck to Trump, while Oregon Governor Tina Kotek and the ODOT keeps changing the rhythm, and the public keeps getting stepped-on.

Tireside Chat Vol. 5: Who is in your Mutual Assistance Group (MAG)?

America the Battlefield

by Timothy A. Pope
April 5, 2025

In today’s Tireside Chat, I address the importance of forming and growing your Mutual Assistance Group (MAG) by cultivating relationships with your neighbors and people in your local community, getting to KNOW them, learning about their skill sets, resources, knowledge, experience, what they bring to the table, training with them, and addressing shared needs or challenges.

More importantly, will they be there when you NEED them? Can you depend on them to be an asset in your MAG, and not a liability?

Some important reasons to cultivate a MAG:

- Community-based organization
- Establish a communication plan during power, internet, or cell phone outages
- Securing life and property from gang or mob riots or other violent or destructive activity
- Preparing for emergencies or adverse weather events
- Emergency/non-emergency activation
- Search and rescue after natural disasters
- Readiness drills and training
- Team building opportunities
- Benefits of bartering and trade
- Food, water and first-aid prepping
- Boosting morale and community culture/involvement
- Operational Security (OPSEC) requirements

What are your thoughts on this subject? Please share your views, insight, tips, and experiences regarding your MAG in the comments. And, if you enjoy my work, please like, share, and subscribe to my channels. Your help in this endeavor is greatly appreciated!
